Background and Motivation

• Most important location factors for industrial production since the beginning of industrialisation: availability of fossil raw materials and energy sources.
• Energy transition and circular economy fundamentally change both location factors → Transformation of the industrial system required.

⇒ Transformation of the industrial system by 2050 is disruptive and requires simultaneous infrastructural and technological adaptation!

Objective

‘Industrial transformation 2050’ from the perspective of technological and geographical redesign of the basic materials industry for a climate-neutral circular economy.
